My third year at university began with my parents' new home flooding, leading to a significant drop in my grades. A few months later, I found myself in Ethiopia, accompanying my ailing father for spiritual rehabilitation. While confined to the rented home, I took the opportunity to document life in Ethiopia with my small film camera. During one photo session with my teenage cousin, he jokingly remarked, "Don't Make Me Look Like the Kids on TV." From that moment, I dedicated myself to the mission of ensuring that neither he nor any of my 120+ million cousins would have to express those sentiments again.
The photobook included images I took during my trip alongside family photos of me as a child in Ethiopia.
